Can you beat the Google Sandbox???

Filed under: Search Engine Optimization — Administrator @ 5:14 am

So I belong to a few private forums and one of the subjects that came up was about the Google Sandbox. Most of the forums members rarely discuss the sandbox most of the time it’s contextual advertising/link development and helping each other out.

We got in a little discussion about the sandbox and some people think it cannot be beat. I for one will tell you right now it can be beat. You aren’t going to rank for poker or viagra within the first couple of months but you can get traffic from Google from day one. I do not want to go into specifics on this post myself (but will at a later date) I would just like to hear if anyone else was able to outwit the Google Sandbox.

  1. I agree, it can be bypassed and I have also in a few sites recently. Like you, I do not want to give details. Get in touch if you want to compare notes.

  2. It’s actually not that hard to avoid the sandbox. It’s also very easy to fall back into it once you’ve gotten out of it :)
Whatever you want to call it, sandbox, penalty phase …

don’t let anyone tell you how long you have to wait to get ranked, and don’t let anyone tell you that you are now safe. Be passive aggressive, that is my advice.

  3. I’ve got two sites, one, my first website, which is just starting to rank in all the search engines, the other, new, which is a pharmacy site (sub-affiliate of Compar on DP). For the pharm site, I expect fairly low uniques any way, so expect I will build traffic from other than the SE’s - more from other means, including a high repeat customer value.

I can guess your “sandbox avoidance” techniques are a bit of a holy grail; but, if anything, perhaps Mike, would you care to expand on what you mean by “passive aggressive?”

Nice blog, Stuart. I read you all the time on DP and appreciate your work.

  4. You guys should check out this from where I’m linking to 2 different threads on v7n. There are a couple of people identifying better than anyone has ever done, what exactly that so-called sandbox effect is.

  5. IMHO the “Sandbox” is a simplistic term for a number of factors that could kick out ANY site based on unnatural linking patterns. We put up tons of sites and they get indexed and traffic from G within days. But, this only works for medium competitive terms … highly competitive terms take a long time and a lot more dedicated focus.

  6. Personally, I don’t think some aspects of the “sandbox” algorithim can be beat.

#1 and most important - Sites with old links are viewed as more trustworthy than brand new links. This is detailed in Google’s patent document.

There’s no doubt you can start getting traffic from Google within days of launching a site, but ranking for a competetive term (100+ sites in place with active SEO campaigns) right away is just about impossible for a new site.

  7. There’re some easy way to outwit the google sandbox.
Check google rankings for phentermine, viagra etc..
people are using old domains, creating subdomains.

But I wouldn’t call that sandbox, it’s not that google is preventing new sites to rank for competitve terms, it’s just that older sites rank better, they have more trust from google, which takes time to gain..
