Gung hay fat choy!

Filed under: Fun Stuff — Administrator @ 8:22 pm

So growing up I had this crazy cousin… you know what I’m talking about every family has one. He was the type of guy that did funny shit all the time. One day he didn’t want to be at school so he told the nurse he had scabies and it worked. He was always pulling crap like that.

Well, one day in July we ordered pizza. After he paid the guy he was trying to be funny and he told the pizza guy “Gung hay fat choy” and smiled. The pizza guy gave him some funny look like he was some retard but then asked what my cousin said. My cousin went into this speech on how he was blessing the pizza and that it was apart of his Buddhist beliefs. The pizza guy stood at the door for a good couple of minutes listening to his rubbish.

After the pizza guy left I asked my cousin what did you really say and he replied he had no idea that he had heard it on TV. I later found out what he said meant happy new year in Chinese. So just about every new year I think about my crazy cousin.

BTW…. Gung hay fat choy!

  2. Kong Hei Fatt Choy is actually a greeting generally used in the Chinese new year to wish one prosperity, luck and fortune.

Happy New Year translated to Chinese literally is San Nin Fai Lok.

  3. You two are both wrong. It’s used in asian bath houses to ask for a “happy ending”.
